Why physical development is always later than mental development

People tend to look at the visible end result. Is the baby walking already? Can he talk? Of course it is nice to experience those first milestones, but actually it is the process before your baby reaches a milestone that is more important and interesting. To do something, whatever it is, your body first has to 'tell' your brain. The brain must be able to make sense of signals generated by neurons in various sensory organs that are "tickled" by the world, outside or inside, and then control the body to 'do' something.
If the brain is not able to pick up signals from the outside or inside world, the brain cannot control and act. As adults we know for example that you should raise your foot at a doorstep, because we know that the doorstep is higher. A young child does not understand the consequences of height yet. He sees the doorstep, but does not understand the consequences of a doorstep. Not until he makes the leap after which this ability emerges in the brain. Once he makes that leap, you see that the baby suddenly deals with differences in height much better. As a parent you see the end result, and that makes you proud. Your baby is able to act better than before. However, it is very important to realize when the real milestone in the brain, in the mental development, takes place. All our capabilities are determined by the various leaps in our mental development.
Your baby's mental development is very important and significant. It affects not only your baby's mood, but also his health, his intelligence, his sleeping pattern, the three C’s (crying, clinginess, crankiness), and much more. Once you understand your baby’s mental development, you can help your baby in so many ways.
